This facade includes 2 recessed storefronts with display windows built above brick bulkheads, recessed panels with corbelled brickwork, and segmental arched windows. 221 South Main Street was occupied by Penningtons Grocey for many years until Mrs. Pennington retired. 223 South Main Street was the location for JH Smith, a produce dealer who bought and sold most anything produced on a farm. You could smell the butter, cream, chicken and side meat and at Thanksgiving, the turkeys were shipped by railroad to other markets. Mr. Smith also issued marriage licenses. Following Mr. Smith, Y.B. Hall, who had kept a grocery and dry goods business next door, kept his farm feed and supplies in this building.
